As Mayor of Austin from 1991 to 1997, Bruce Todd led the second-fastest-growing city in the nation to record levels of both job production and environmental protection. He spearheaded the conversion of Bergstrom Air Force Base to a $500-million civilian airport. He led the successful joint city-county effort to preserve thousands of acres of wilderness areas in Travis County. Todd has been instrumental in the effort to involve the community in youth programs and to provide school-to-work opportunities for Austin students, including the model Apprenticeship Exchange program with Koblenz, Germany.
Todd has played a key role in Austin's economic resurgence, and was actively involved in successful efforts to attract such companies as Samsung Corporation and Apple Computer. During his tenure as Mayor, Austin became the nation's second-largest high-tech manufacturing center and itslargest fabricator of microchips.
As Travis County Commissioner, prior to serving as Mayor, Todd led the push to consolidate the county's road improvement program under a centralized management system. He supported tax-incentive packages that became the cornerstone of Austin and Travis County's job creation efforts.
In the private sector, Todd as a business guru has extensive experience in financial planning and in turnarounds for troubled companies. He is a certified public accountant with a BBA from the University of Texas at Austin.
Todd was a Presidential appointee to the Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations and a member of the U. S. Conference of Mayors' Advisory Board. He was chair of Mayors United on Safety, Crime and Law Enforcement (MUSCLE, a coalition of Texas' largest cities.)
Todd's 25 years of experience in infrastructure development, municipal and country government, and private-sector finances make his public affairs business one of the most effective in the state.
